Rapper M-Bone shot and killed in Inglewood, California
On Sunday evening, May 15th, 2011 M-Bone (whos real name is Mante Ray Talbert) of the rap group Cali Sawg District was shot twice in the head in the parking lot of a liquer store in Inglewood, California at approximately 10:30 p.m.. Mante was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A man sitting in the passenger seat of Talbert's car was miraculously not injured.
The shooter was apparently driving a Red Ford Mustang, and fired two rounds into M-Bone's car. The year of the Mustang is not known by us yet, nor if the car was stolen before or since the shooting.
Leutenant Marshall of the Inglewood, California Police Department has apparently been misquoted by EOnline as saying M-Bone was sitting in the passenger seat, when in fact and in crime scene pictures, he was sitting in the drivers seat.
Inglewood detectives are still investigating the scene and a few new leads in the case, such as the red Ford Mustang, and the driver of that car, and apparent shooter. Several theories have been put forward on social media sites and detectives were following up on some of those to see if they are credible.
Mante Talbert was "the victim of a random act of violence," Cali Swag District's publicist Greg Miller said in a statement. "He was a hardworking, passionate artist and dancer that will be deeply missed," Miller said.
Groupmate C-Smoove tweeted Monday "My life just changed drastically in the blink of an eye rip mbone." Monday night dozens of friends, fans and family members gathered outside the liquor store and held a vigil for Talbert.
Cali Swag District's hit "Teach Me How to Dougie" is based on the "Dougie" dance, which first appeared in Texas and is noted for its leaning stances, shoulder and arm movements. The dance was not only performed in dance clubs and the streets but by celebrities as well, from Wolf Blitzer to Washington Wizards player John Wall; even first lady Michelle Obama recently performed the dance as part of her "Let's Move" initiative.
"Teach Me How to Dougie" spent several months in the top 10 of Billboard's hot rap songs. The group also performed the dance on several television shows.
Dirty South TV would like to send our heartfelt condolences to M-Bone's family, friends, loved ones and his fellow groupmates of Cali Swag District.
Many news agencies including TMZ are saying that this was a drive-by shooting--and they are incorrect. This shooter pulled up, stopped, shot at least twice, then left the scene and THEN drove back by the scene again.
